Feeding the Five Thousand

Feeding the Five Thousand
Mk.6:30, 44.

Intro .Out of the four evangelists relates this remarkable incident of the feeding of the five thousand. Mark gives more space to the story than anyone to other writers. Mark seems to have written to present the miraculous power of Jesus.

Three things to consider in this incident are of particular interest:

I. Condition of the multitude – the compassion of Jesus Mk.6:33, 34)

A.IT WAS A GREAT Multitude- five thousand
B. It was a shepherd less and scattered multitude
C. it was hungry multitude
D. it was a helpless multitude- could not feed them
E. it was a perishing multitude- must be feed or perish

II. Command of Christ

How shall such a multitude be fed?
a. Christ’s Answer: “Give you them to eat!”
b. Man’s answer: “Master, how can we?”

III. Christ’s Program of Help
Five basic laws of world service cone to light in this incident:
a. Help must come from God’s people-servants.
b. Help must come through the little we have-not what we wish we had, not what some other folks have.
c. But our little must be surrendered to Christ-placed in his hands

d. Once placed in his hands, he makes three changes in it:
 1. He gives it his special blessing
2 He multiples it and makes it sufficient
3. He gives it to the hungry and needy

e. Anyone with holding his little gifts from Christ and the needy world commits three crimes:
1. Resists Christ’s command and imperils his cause.
2. Brings poverty and hurt to his own soul
3. Leaves the millions of needy ones to die
